Pieces from a crop of a sleeping agent

  Tomáš Daněk

Discontinouous and incoherent collage made of observations on the topic of Astrology in a random shots hotchpotch style interpreted by contemporary renaissance naturalist playing a joker role. What this production involves? Our considerations are very often based on the fact that the constellations of the heavenly bodies are
meaningfully interconnected by synchronicity with the earthly events according to the famous axiom „as above, so below“. It is convenient to ask a question, whether there is any possibility, at least symbolic, that the earthly
events are interconnected in the same way. For example the massive relocation of population and the long-distance transfer of, for example, the plant taxons.

History of Media not only through the lens of Astrology

 Jiří Janda

The topic is based on the author´s long-term personal experience in the field of printed media. In his contribution, he presents his viewpoint on the situation of media, especially the czech ones, foremost in the last ten years. His reflection involves possibilities of the news, its objectivity and a function in todays world, where people derive informations mainly from the source of internet news, including fake news. His viewpoint is naturally shielded by astrological connotations.

The contribution brings a walk through the Ecliptics accompanied by the planet Neptune, which by author´s opinion symbolizes a deep inner tensions and impulses, with which appropriately gifted individuals or teams are able to charm and influence masses and nations via the media. The term „media“ itself as an object of research tells us how close it is to its occult prototype, not only in a linguistic sense.

We can speak about media more or less in today´s sense, from the 40´s of the 19th century. And it is not merely a chance that the planet Neptune was discovered in 1846. At the same time when the mankind  matured to invent rotary printing press and with its contribution it was possible to spread new ideas(any at all) literally
a thousand times faster then any time before. And those who didn´t sleep at school, during the lessons of czech literature history, they know that also in the year 1846 Karel Havlíček Borovský, who is appreciated till today as a
founder of czech journalism, returned to Bohemia from his russian mission.

In this contribution, we accompany Neptune through each and every sign of the zodiac and we observe, more new media being added to the basis of printed media. There are news agencies, radio stations, movies, TVs, internet, digital multiplexes, mobile phone applications, computer games etc. estabilished. Their influence rises and falls, yet printed newspapers are still at the top among the media of that time. Nevertheless now we have a „chance“ to watch its extinction live.

We observe at the moment the return of this mysterious blue planet into the sign of Aquarius. As Neptune have reached the place where we met him for the first time, the era of printed newspaper is  being closed by the world economy crisis, which is the nail in its coffin. The smell of the printing-ink was blown away with vigour by internet. Internet news are for free and that´s how it looks like. ,,Even though it is not true, but it could be…“

The significance of the relative chart of natal charts of the teacher and the children´s collective

in a teacher´s practice

 Jan Kotiš

The author in his contribution tries to draw up the significance of  the common natal chart of all participants of the learning process. He shows us that this task has an extensive significance in the process of creating  society itself and vice versa – the view on this process of development is interesting also from the viewpoint of subject
of astrology i.e. in a complementary level of cognition. It is very complicated problem both ways, so it´s not a surprise, that there are different  possibilities how to calculate collective relative chart with a different
amount of subjectivity of achieved results and its eventual distortion. This condition brings about a need of a further study and tuning in various ways of elaboration of the results. Application of these astrological methods mentioned above in the teacher´s practice, presents new possibilities of creative, inspiring and meaningful attitude anyway.

 Celestial swing

 Ondřej Lesák

The contribution is directed by an effort for shift in interpretation from particular planetary characteristics by position and relation, represented by the signs, houses, aspects and configurations to common and relatively simple rules, which can be followed by these characteristics. It is especially a symbolic comprehension of  the physical laws itself to which all circular, respectively cyclic movements of the physical bodies are subjcted, including the planets. The laws of conservation of matter, energy and momentum(rotation) are naturally applied for these movements. For example tidal phenomena, accompanied with Moon´s moving away from the Earth, are the consequence of the last mentioned law.

One example of  the symbolic comprehension mentioned above is based on the correspondence of circular motion of the heavenly body in its plane-level of orbit and the dynamics of significances which are under cyclic change within that, what we call plane-level of opinion. Rudhyars´emphasis on cyclicity after all deserves being brought up to the consequences which may enrich even a philosophical point of view of events in nature and society. Here, where unconscious emphasis on linearity of events still prevails and at the same time admission of existence of cyclic events is at least inconsistent. As an example of this – the term inertia, also used in philosophy relatively abundantly. Without one-sided accent on linearity of events, inevitably in relation to inertia, as a philosophic subject, we wouldn´t speak only about matter. Because in case of cyclic movements and events, for inertia
– correctly rotation/momentum (moment of inertia) – not only matter, but also its rotating form or spatial arrangement of mutualy orbiting bodies has its significance. In relation to this, it is a category, where duality of spirit and matter – very common in philosophy – doesn´t fit in.

Reflection of ideas of D. Rudhyar in the work of R. Tarnas and his followers

in the domain of archetypal cosmology

 Petr Lisý

Astrology may make an impression of integrated worldview, but in fact it is a specific language or symbolic system, which is wraped up in another older layers of  worldviews. Todays textbooks of astrology represent a „conglomerate“ of different knowledge and different ways of understanding, and many of them represent  worldview and culture influences from very long time ago. Some of these influences seem to be necessary and relevant( for example the ancient and rennaissance Hermeticism and Pantheism) meanwhile some other ones we find rather problematic( roman street divination, arabic determinism) ancient and rennaisance Hermeticism( Magic, Pantheism); Theosophy (Esoterism). So the nature and quality of our astrological practice is crucially dependent and based on the worldview
premises. And we should be aware of these premises. The American Richard Tarnas is doing a meritorious work with his generous effort for vindication of astrological worldview and for its return back to the curriculum of
universities.

Astrologer, philosopher, cultural historian and one of the prominent contemporary integral thinkers Richard
Tarnas studied cultural history and depth psychology at Harvard University and
Saybrook Institute. In the 70´s and 80´s of the 20th century he worked in Esalen Institute in California. Between 1974 – 1984 he worked there as a
director of the educational programme. And there he met Stanislav Grof, transpersonnal psychiatrist, with which they became close friends and cooperative colleagues. Tarnas is the professor of philosophy and cultural history at California Institute of Internal Studies (CIIS) in San Francisco, where in 1994 he was a co-founder of bachelor and master degree study programme called „Philosophy, cosmology and consciousness“. His first book The Passion of the
Western Mind
(1991) is considered as one of the most incisive summary of evolution of the western thought from the ancient Greece to postmodernism. And this book became a textbook at many universities worldwide. It epresents essential criticism of Cartesian-Kant epistemology and it implies perspectives for a new participating epistemology. Tarnas outlined its traces in his monumental study Cosmos and Psyche (2006) which became default work for creating a new academic subject „archetypal cosmology“.

Archetypal cosmology investigates corelations between different archetypal patterns of human experience and the
structural order of the Solar system. Using metodology, interpretation principles and the cosmological perspective of astrology for this purpose. It is a multidisciplinary subject, which besides astrology draws…also from depth
psychology, history, philosophy, cosmology, religious studies, comparative mythology, culturology, art history and the sciences of the new paradigm. There are three key sources of ideas. Their influence and concurrence has led to the development of archetypal cosmology. The ancient greek philosophy, depth psychology and astrology. The evidence of remarkable correlations between the slow-moving planets cycles and the key global events, which Tarnas presents in the book Cosmos and Psyche, brings to this subject new unexpected credibility and provides so far most compelling testimony, that astrology as an age-old symbolic system, which integrated knowledge from the depth, humanistic and transpersonal psychology in the past decades, deserves a serious research.

The inspiration of Tarnas by Rudhyar is rather indirect. Tarnas states that he has been influenced by Rudhyar´s conception of the outer planets as the „ambassadors of the galaxy“ and also his connection between astronomical exploration of these planets and the worldwide phenomenons of  relevant time.Tarnas didn´t read  Rudhyar´s book Astrological timing before completion of Cosmos and Psyche .This book contains germs of  similar approach,
which was further developed by Michael R.Maier in more metaphysical way. So there was a parallel development of similar perspective by the two relatively independent and talented personalities of astrology of he 20th century.

Transpersonal astrology

 Martina Lukášková

Introduction to the basic Rudhyar´s theses of transpersonal astrology and transpersonal path. Using the parable of the fairy tale Long, Broad and Sharpsight( orig. Dlouhý, široký a bystrozraký) written by K.J.Erben, which illustrates not only the annual solar cycle, but also the effect of transpersonal powers-planets upon the human personality. There is a hero-Sun in the fairy tale as a prince, the one who undergoes processes symbolized by his helpers Long – Uranus, Broad – Neptune, Sharpsight – Pluto. The prince passes through the exams and he is the winner not only on the outer level – liberation of the princess-nature, but also on the personal and spiritual level, because he doesn´t highlight his merits, he suppresses his ego and he emphasizes the fact, that without his helpers he wouldn´t be able to win against the darkness symbolized by a sorcerer. There are three exams-crises, which he passes through
and so as there are three transpersonal planets. There were also the shadowy images mentioned. Uranus – riot, Neptune – mass psychosis, escape by personal or collective drug, or by transfer of responsibility, Pluto – totality or gang.
In conclusion – connection of the fairy tale parable with the astrological practice by working with the seeking human. The consultation is a playful process happening between the trio – seeking human, astrologer and astrological symbols. And just here comes the creative state in which everyone alone finds
defense against anxiety and stress. And everyone can realize himself alone and get closer to what transcends himself.

The classical topics of (not only) western esotericism in Rudhyar´s work or who is the true occultist

 Jindřich Veselý

Rudhyar´s metaphysics thus his „philosophy of operative wholeness“, which we can get to know especially in his main works( Rhythm of wholeness, Planetarization of consciousness) can be, by my opinion, daringly considered as the centre point of his thoughts. These thoughts create an organic whole in accordance with this philosophy and single aspects of Rudhyars´ legacy make full sense only relating to his main philosophical myth presenting cyclicity motive, symbol of cycle.

This philosophical myth tells quite traditional-like story about plurality of manifested cosmos springing up from divine unity and then returning back again. There is a specific Rudhyar´s innovation of this as it were universal story, known in different variations. It is the emphasis on the fact that neither unity nor diversity(eventually another analogous pair of polar opposites) is absolute, but one always refers to another and so they are necessarily constantly in cyclic interaction. The residue of diversity always provokes unity to manifestate itself again, and the residue of unity always brings diversity to compose itself again into unity. The cycle of cosmic events in such conception, seen through the lens of polarity, unity and diversity, has four basic phases. In the first one, the quasiabsolute subjectivity or unity of divine consciousness creating/intending the main archetype of Human being begins to differentiate itself internally in the creative hierarchies. In the second phase, there appears the reality manifested, and further on, differentiate itself in „the outer“ objective world. At the end of the second phase there
comes turnover. The principle of unity growing so far, as basic dynamism of involution begins to fade away and the reins of cosmic events are taken by principle of unity in its oncoming phase. Aproximately at this breaking point, in the second phase of developed biosphere, there is an archetype of Human being descending to the prepared ground of utmost diversity. In the third phase, where contemporary mankind stands now, the evolution process of progressive embodiment of an archetype of human being takes place now in many cultures. And in the centre of these cultures there are always different single aspects of an archetype of human being as embodied by significant avataric personalities. The aim of this third phase is a human being who has broken free from conditionality of his native culture, who went through arduous stage of individuality and who came to „initiation into service“ for superior whole and to transformation into a transpersonal individual, and similar to properly polished lens focuses into his place in time and space compassionate flare of divinity. In the fourth phase the collective of such initiated beings, „pleroma“, again comes to quasiabsolute unity of divine subjectivity and their mission is to see, thanks to experience of the ending cycle, (to a certain extent) modified central archetype of human being for the next cycle.
Those beings whose evolution was not succesful in this way apparently fall into temporary state of unconsciousness , in a way of more or less inert matter of the next cycle.

The artist Dane Rudhyar

Pavel Turnovský

We know Rudhyar primarily as an astrologer, but he considered himself more as philosopher and composer. He was educated in both fields, he got bachelor´s degree in philosophy at Sorbonne.

Rudhyar communicated his ideas in various ways. Throughout his life he composed music, he wrote poems, two novels and for certain period of time he also pursued art as an autodidact. He believed, that if the idea is powerful, means of expression will appear. An author should be focal point, a lens through which transpersonal ideas concentrate and then consequently spread around.

In Rudhyar´s natal chart we can see a double biquintile aspect pattern formed by Saturn at apex of the biquintile in conjunction with Neptune, Mars and Pluto below Descendant, on the other side of biquintile to Sun. Quintile sequence points at being equipped with advanced individual technical means, even artistic ones for example. According to Rudhyar, Neptune with Pluto are using Mars to assert the principles which they symbolize. And Saturn gives them a form and structure. There is another biquintile in the natal chart, namely between Uranus and Jupiter, symbolizing innovation. We shouldn´t forget Venus – on the cusp of the 5th house of Campanus system, she brings creative activities.

As we look back, in May 1913 when Rudhyar was witnessing the  premiere of The Rite of  Spring, Pluto
was just at sextile with his natal Venus. Thus Pluto changed radically Rudhyar´s ideas about the forms of creative activities. In the years 1937 – 1938, when Pluto was in square to Venus, Rudhyar met a community of painters in
Santa Fe influenced by theosophist painters Kandinsky and Mondrian. Together with these artists, he founds Transcendental painting group in June 1938, he writes a manifesto of the group and exhibits his paintings and drawings which he creates at this time. Although the group dissolves in 1942 due to the warfare, it manages to influence abstract expressionism emerging in New York at the time. Rudhyar is involved in his fine art activities approximately fifteen years during which he creates about fifty works. Some details become typographical marks – vignettes in Rudhyar´s books published after the war.

Rudhyar didn´t insist on the only ,,correct“ interpretation of  his art works, he left the spectator to create his own interpretation inspired by the title of the work.
